Parody Pies

Faye Claridge’s project is based in Tipton, a town dubbed ‘Brexit Town’ by the media. She’s using Mad O’Rourke’s ‘Brexit Pie’ as a starting point for exploring food and politics and their links to personal, local and global identity. Faye has been photographing the pub’s creators of its ‘See EU Later Pie’ and collaborating with them to produce parody pie recipes such as Social Mobility Pie and Echo Chamber Pie, which reflect current and post-Brexit Britain. All pies will be exhibited as placemats in the pub to encourage an appetite for debate.

This commission is part of the Forge Artist Open Call Programme which invited 12 West Midlands artists and/or curators to make new bodies of work for the Blast! Festival and take part in a mentorship programme.  M

ARTIST BIO

Faye Claridge’s work is rooted in ideas about national and personal identity, migration and the rise of nationalistic politics. She is currently exhibiting in New Contemporaries (South London Gallery and Liverpool Biennial) and producing new commissions for National Trust Dudmaston and Coventry Biennial. she has exhibited at the Arts Council Collection, The Photographers’ Gallery and London Art Fair, and was shortlisted for the Helen Chadwick Fellowship. Her first London solo show was awarded Time Out Exhibition of the Week. Faye was Artist In Residence at the University of Birmingham 2016-17 and a participant on the alternative MA programme Syllabus II.
